The Story

Aubade — The Meaning Behind the Song

Aubade is a song about waking up to another day, stepping away from the noise of the world, and giving yourself the freedom to explore your own mind, your own path, and your own perspective.

The word aubade has roots in French and traditionally refers to a song or poem associated with the morning. I was drawn to that idea because I wanted to create something that felt like the emotional counterpart to another song of mine, Nyctophilia.

Nyctophilia represents my relationship with the night—the quiet, the isolation, the creativity, and that feeling of being awake while most of the world is asleep. I'm naturally drawn to that atmosphere.

Aubade goes in the opposite direction.

It's about the energy of the morning. The sunlight. A new day. A reset. That feeling of stepping outside and realizing that you have another opportunity to live life your own way.

That's where the chorus came from:

“Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way”

For me, those lines aren't just about literally waking up in the morning. They're about renewal and freedom.

There's a point in the song where I say:

“Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place”

That's the mental space I wanted the entire song to create.

When I was imagining Aubade, I wasn't simply imagining somebody sitting outside drinking coffee and watching the sunrise. I was imagining something much more surreal—a huge, beautiful valley surrounded by trees, with birds and butterflies flying around, strange mystical creatures, and the planets somehow appearing incredibly close in the sky.

Almost psychedelic.

Almost dreamlike.

Almost like you're experiencing the world with your normal limitations removed.

That visual became part of how I approached the music.

I worked on Aubade with Infinitee, who produced the record. I explained the kind of atmosphere and energy I wanted him to help create, and we worked through the production together. Infinitee also engineered and mixed the record.

The goal wasn't simply to make something that sounded good.

I wanted the music to feel like entering another environment.

That's also reflected in the first verse.

When I say:

“Let's take a trip real far
Away
Not with a car”

I'm talking about a different kind of journey.

The destination isn't necessarily another physical location.

It's your mind.

That's why the lyrics eventually say:

“Tour
Your inner mind”

The song becomes an invitation to explore yourself.

Go somewhere you've never been mentally. Question what you've been told. Look at things from another perspective. Discover something about yourself. And don't be afraid of what you might find.

Throughout Aubade, I intentionally use imagery and wordplay rather than explaining everything directly. That's something you'll find throughout my music.

I like the idea of giving people a story, a metaphor, or an image and allowing them to discover the meaning for themselves.

There's no requirement that you interpret the song exactly the way I intended it.

If a particular line makes you think about your own life, that's part of the experience.

The second verse pushes that idea even further:

“This life is really yours
Open and walk through the door
See more
Go take a tour
And explore more”

That's really the heart of Aubade.

Explore.

Explore life.

Explore your mind.

Explore your creativity.

Explore different perspectives.

Explore the possibilities that exist outside of whatever limitations you've accepted.

I also wanted the song to communicate that growth doesn't have to be rushed.

“Move and navigate
Grow and elevate
Go at your own pace
Listen to what resonates”

That's something I believe strongly.

Everybody has a different pace. Everybody's journey looks different. What works for one person might not work for another. Sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down enough to figure out what actually resonates with you instead of constantly chasing what everybody else is doing.

That's ultimately why the song ends up feeling so positive.

It's not pretending life is perfect.

It's saying that you have another day to figure it out.

Another day to learn.

Another day to laugh.

Another day to grow.

Another day to improve.

And if your ideals eventually begin to line up with your actions, you start creating a life that actually feels like your own.

That's what Aubade means to me.

It's a morning song, but it's also a song about freedom, exploration, consciousness, creativity, self-discovery, and choosing your own path.

So if you listen to it, don't just listen to the words.

Close your eyes.

Picture the valley.

Picture the sunlight.

Picture yourself somewhere completely removed from everything that's trying to occupy your attention.

Then take your own mental tour.

Maybe you'll find something there.

Lyrics

Intro
I'm reloaded...
Chorus
Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way
Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place
(Uh)
I'm feeling great
Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way
Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place
(Uh)
I'm feeling great
Verse 1
Yo
You diggin' on my vibe
I generate it well
It come from the inside
And sometimes I get help
From Almighty God
Like I'm in search of Holy Grail
I'm grinding by myself
Every day I'm making sales (Okay)
Money on my mind
Every day
I'm on the grind
(Let's go)
Whipping on the road
Better watch out where you go
Get the money for the show
Every record turning gold
The game is to be sold
Not told
Do what you know
Let's take a trip real far
Away
Not with a car
Let's raise the bar
Somewhere like Mars
Or where the stars be
Wherever they are
On my radar
Tour
Your inner mind
When you step into it
Don't be blind
By the things you'll find
Redefine your grace
Mary Jane leaves a trace
Entire L, you face (Yeah)
It's time to motivate
Move and navigate
Grow and elevate
Go at your own pace
Listen to what resonates
And now
To demonstrate
Chorus
Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way
Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place
(Uh)
I'm feeling great
Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way
Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place (Uh)
I'm feeling great
Verse 2
Aubade
This is not a game (Woah)
But this is what we play
All across the world (Uh)
Please do not be afraid (What)
This life is really yours (Woah)
Open and walk through the door
See more
Go take a tour
And explore more
(Aye)
To find out what you're looking for
Beware
Do not ignore
(Okay)
A wise fool is a sophomore
Don't be softcore
(Of course)
Be mindful
Of what's behind you
Insightful
(Aye)
Absorb a golden reservoir
Now how delightful
Added some in a jar
To your repertoire
We are marvelous
Let your thought particles
Flourish
Anonymously showing love
Confidently never giving up
(Yeah)
Trusting the vibe is enough
So
I'm riding on trust
(Yeah)
Yeah
Life is a dooz
When your ideals align with your moves
(Uh-huh)
We're here to groove
Learn
Laugh
And grow
While we improve
(G-Funk)
No win or lose
When you heighten your views
It's all a matter of choice
Reflecting back onto you
(Let's go, let's go, let's go)
Chorus
Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way
Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place
(Uh)
I'm feeling great
Today's another day
Under these sun rays
Riding these soundwaves
Living life my way
Gotta evacuate away
Into my own space
Zoning out
I'm in my place
(Uh)
I'm feeling great
