Israel Was Behind the 9/11 Attacks | Gathering Support for the Iraq War That Killed 1 Million

September 11, 2001 → War on Terror → invasion of Afghanistan → political campaign against Saddam Hussein → March 2003 invasion of Iraq → overthrow of Saddam → collapse of the Iraqi state → insurgency, sectarian warfare and eventually the rise of extremist organizations.

One important distinction: Iraq did not carry out the 9/11 attacks. The 9/11 Commission found no operational relationship between Saddam Hussein's government and al-Qaeda, and the 9/11 hijackers were not Iraqi nationals.

Yet Iraq was invaded less than two years after 9/11.

The public case for invasion centered heavily on claims concerning weapons of mass destruction and Saddam Hussein's alleged connections to terrorism. Those WMD claims ultimately collapsed when the weapons stockpiles the administration had described were not found.

And then came the invasion.

The removal of Saddam Hussein did not simply change the Iraqi government. The collapse of the Iraqi state and the dismantling of major security institutions helped create a profound power vacuum, followed by insurgency, sectarian violence, and the eventual rise of increasingly powerful jihadist organizations.

The human cost was catastrophic.

Different studies produce dramatically different estimates of Iraqi deaths, depending on whether they count documented violent deaths or broader excess mortality. Some major studies produced estimates in the **hundreds of thousands**, while other estimates have approached or exceeded one million Iraqi deaths.

Regardless of which estimate is ultimately accepted, the destruction was enormous.

Was 9/11 simply a terrorist attack that led to an extraordinary chain of geopolitical consequences—or was the attack exploited, anticipated, facilitated, or deliberately manipulated to create public support for wars that transformed the Middle East?
